A Week of Healthy Eating

Here is a whole weeks worth of meals to keep you fit and healthy. Starting with breakfast and ending with your evening snack. Eating healthy dosn't have to be bland and yucky. Check out these great choices.

Healthy Week Breakfast

Sunday

Sunday breakfast at Moms with the family is special.
*Whole wheat pancakes or waffles (Trader Joe's has a great mix) topped with fresh berries
*Turkey bacon (oven baked on a rack)
*Fresh squeezed orange & grapefruit juice
*Whole grain toast w/ sugar free fruit spread
*Pineapple chunks, grapes, melon slices and berries

*Fresh Veggie Juice 1
*1/2 cup FF yogurt
*Bowl of whole grain cereal with soy or coconut milk &
blueberries or strawberries
*Slice of melon

*Fresh grapefruit
*Poached egg & Canadian bacon sandwich on whole grain english muffin
*Coconut milk or soy milk

*Orange sections (in a baggie and I eat them at work)

Saturday
Healthy Breakfast
Ahh the weekend, kick back and have a great breakfast
*Fresh Veggie Juice 2
*Scrambled eggs with onion, green pepper, mushrooms and ham

*Turkey bacon (oven baked on a rack)
*1 slice Whole grain toast w/ smart balance
*Coffee or tea the way you like it (the good stuff)
*Grapefruit and orange sections
*Melon slices

Mid Morning or Afternoon Snacks to Calm the Savage Hungries

 

  • Raw or toasted nuts (light on the salt)
  • Fruit (I like grapefruit sections)
  • Raw veggies with a fat free yogurt dip or hummis dip
  • Baked veggie chips
  • Chocolate (yes chocolate, a small piece won't kill you)
  • Granola or granola bar (find one not too loaded with sugar)
  • Whole wheat crackers and peanut butter
  • Hard boiled egg
  • An Avocado with a little Italian Vinegratte dressing (I love this)
  • Juice (fruit or veggie)
  • Low fat cheese sticks
  • Fat free or low fat yogurt
  • Small bowl of whole grain cereal with or without skim or soy milk.
  • Whole grain bagel and cream cheese (or peanut butter)
  • Gummy bears (just a few)
  • Pretzles

 

Healthy Week Lunch

Sunday is a free day. Breakfast is usually more like Brunch. Here is a nice Brunch menu to try with the family at Grandma's house.

Whole Wheat coffee Cake (Trader Joe's makes a great baking mix for this)

Egg & Sausage Casserole, Ham or bacon on the side

Fresh Fruit Salad (what ever is in season)

Juice, coffee, tea, milk (or soy milk)

Jenny's lunch mix

Fresh or frozen fruit in season

A mozzarella cheese stick

Veggie Straws (find them in the Pantry) single serving bag.

Bottle of water with EmergenC

Bowl of Fruit

Homemade Chicken Salad with Blueberries

Serve the chicken salad on a large lettuce leaf and avocado half, sliced

Mixed lettuce & greens salad with Italian vinaigrette dressing

3 or 4 whole grain crackers (Miltons are good)

Fresh fruit mix or a bunch of grapes

Iced tea with lemon or mint

Wednesday

Friday

Turkey sandwich on whole wheat with lettuce, tomato, ff mayonnaise and what ever else you like

Small container of mixed fruit

Small cup of Southwest Turkey Soup

Ice Tea or Bottled Water

Turkey Sandwich

Hummus topped with roasted red peppers, feta cheese, red onion and drizzled with olive oil.

Hummus Dip

Whole grain crackers, carrot sticks and cucumber sticks for dipping

Strawberries & sliced peaches over ff yogurt (vanilla yogurt is good here)

Ice Tea or juice

TGIF

Splurge a little and go out for a chopped salad or a sandwich.

Small side salad with Italian vinaigrette dressing

Dinner with the family is always a treat. Here is a perfect menu for gathering around the table.

Sunday Roasted Chicken w/ Giblet Gravy

Throw together Thursday, time to clean out the leftovers...

Stir-fry with left over chicken or pepper steak and any veggies you have on hand or left over. Finish with your favorite sauce. Try chicken broth, white wine and arrowroot.

Crusty Bread dipped in Olive Oil, Spices and Crushed Garlic

Any other leftovers? Make a buffet

Friday calls for Pizza

Get your favorite take out or... Try my personal favorite.

Tossed Mixed Baby Greens w/ Sliced mushrooms, shredded carrots, radish slices, cucumber slices and dressing of your choice
